John Anthony Capo (1948 – 2008)

John A. Capo was a founding partner of Capo Sgro LLP.

John graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973, and from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Laws in 1976. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1978.

John diligently served his clients and his community with honour and distinction for many years: he was the founder and first President of the Italian Club at Erindale College at the University of Toronto; he was knighted and was a member of the Knights of Columbus; he was a founding member of the Pink Box Foundation, a non-profit organization to teach, support and assist the less privileged in a small town in Ecuador; he was a founder and first president of the Canadian Italian Advocates Organization (CIAO); he was a past president of and actively involved with Villa Colombo; he was a member of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association (CIPBA); he was a member of the Committee for Redress for the Internment of Italian-Canadians during World War II; and he hosted a very successful radio show on CHIN-AM 1540 on which he regularly spoke about and educated the community on relevant legal issues.

During his lifetime, John was the proud and well deserved recipient of many awards and honours, including the Italian Canadian Benevolent Corporation’s President’s Award, the CIAO Award of Excellence and the Villa Charities Heart and Hand award. After his passing, John was also recognized and honoured by many organizations for being an outstanding member of his community and his profession.

John dedicated his career to servicing his clients and to obtaining access to justice for his clients and his community. He was a true leader with a genuine and great passion for the practice of law, and he was a strong advocate for his clients.

John A. Capo is and will continue to be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, clients and friends.
